The question I’d ask before buying a fragrance is pretty simple: am I excited about wearing it, or am I excited about everything I’ve heard about it?
There’s room for both, of course. A great description can get you interested. So can a recommendation from someone whose taste you trust. But neither can tell you exactly how you’ll feel when you’re the one wearing it.
That’s why I like the idea of giving a fragrance a few ordinary days before making a decision.
With our decants and samples now available, you can do that with names from our bestseller selection, including Stronger With You Intensely, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Superleggera, and Mercedes-Benz Club Black Eau de Toilette.
I wouldn’t turn sampling into a big project. Pick one, wear it, and go about your day.
Notice it when you notice it. Do you enjoy catching a little of it a few hours later? Does it feel right for what you’re doing? When the next day comes around, are you interested in wearing it again?
Those answers would mean more to me than being able to pick out every individual note.
I’d also give an undecided fragrance another chance. You don’t have to love something immediately, and you don’t have to talk yourself into liking it because it’s popular. Sometimes a second wear helps you make up your mind.
If you’re comparing a few samples, a short note on your phone is enough. “Would wear again,” “too sweet for my taste,” or “liked it more later” will probably be more useful than trying to write a detailed review.
And if you finish a decant and don’t want a full bottle? I’d still consider that worthwhile. You got to enjoy or simply explore a fragrance without committing to more than you wanted.
That’s what I’m excited to offer with smaller sizes: a little more room to make your own decision.
